Claims
Nobody likes claims. Here is what to do to be sure yours' is handled quickly and efficiently.
Automobile
Make some notes:
- The date, time and place of the accident
- The name, address, contact info and insurance company of any other involved party
- The authority contacted (usually local or state police) and their contact info
- The name, address and contact info of any witnesses
- A brief description of the accident; ie. hit in rear by other vehicle, lost control on icy road and went off road hitting tree, two car collission at intersection; do not try to assign blame - just report the facts of the accident
Call your insurance company directly, (the claims phone number is on your ID card). The company prefers to hear from you directly, not your agent, as only you will be able to answer some of the unique questions the may have about your accident. When you call be sure to make note of the claim number you're assigned and the name of your claims representative.
Of course, we are also always here to support you. So, if you have ANY questions or problems with the resolution of your claim please contact us at (802) 748-8081 and we will do our best to answer any questions or assist you.
Property
- Make things secure. This means boarding up broken windows, maybe putting a tarp over a damaged roof. Whatever you need to do to make temporary repairs so that the damage does not get any worse.
- Take some pictures. They really do speak a thousand words.
- Call the insurance company. They will authorize temporary repairs that are needed, assign a claims representative to your case and authorize other things you may need such as temporary housing.
Once again, if you have ANY questions or problems with the resolution of your claim please contact us at (802) 748-8081 and we will do our best to answer any questions or assist you.
